A systematic review of illness representations in patients with mild traumatic brain injury

Introduction: Little is known about the cognitive and emotional perceptions of patients with mild traumatic brain injury, although studies showed experiencing difficulties in functioning psychological impacts following their injury. This systematic review aims to identify current literature regarding illness representation dimensions injury related factors. Methods: A search electronic databases was completed using PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web Science, which were published from 2002 April 2020. Studies assessed for quality bias, data analyzed narrative synthesis. Results: The initial yielded 155 studies, ten included. results that had negative toward Some found have relationships post-concussion symptoms, post-traumatic stress disorder, life patients. Conclusions: representations can be applied such because it able explain symptoms factors indicate recovery process. findings help trauma nurses build interventions based on generate appropriate after may enhance process outcomes.
